OWNER'S COMMENTS: Starting with an excellent overbuilt never damaged
hull, top sides and deck, the boat was updated and completely restored by
Tradition Boat Wrights during the second half of 2007. This boat was never
intended to go on the market. Circumstances have turned to require sale. Here
are some of the restoration details:
- All new exterior teak: Toe-rails, bowsprit, rub-rails,
eyebrow, companionway boards, cockpit combing, cockpit grate, engine panel
and all other trim replaced with new Burmese teak! Left unvarnished, the
topside teak may be left as-is, or varnished.
- All deck hardware was re-bedded or replaced: Nothing
was left to chance. Including chain plates, port-lights, etc. Traveler
horse has been powder-coated. Cleat locations have been optimized to
prevent chafe.
- Deck and cockpit has been re-finished with 2-part
linear polyurethane, and the non-skid replaced with a Gelcoat/Garnet
offshore style nonskid.
- The sails were built in 2001, but were stored in a
controlled environment until 2007. They are in immaculate condition and
used less than 30 hours.
- Running rigging is all top-notch quality, with
lariat-braid sheets. The double-course life-lines were replaced in January
and have easy-release ABI slim-line pelican hook gates and all ends as well
as the starboard side accommodation gate.
- Hydraulic steering (added in addition to being able to
still use a tiller). New in January, this is a balanced-cylinder steering
that requires no steering brake. It stays just where you set it! Top
quality components and installation make this a really great addition to the
sailing experience. U-line tiltable helm, is 4 turns lock to lock
proportion make it easy to steer. Just attach the tiller to have manual
steering or use the Autohelm autopilot.
- Furniture grade interior: As needed some of the
interior joinery and paneling has been replaced with a new 1088 certified
Marine Burmese Teak/Oakum plywood or Burmese teak. All void areas and lazarettes have been re-painted with mildew-resistant paint. Bilges are
clean and oil-free. All cushion covers are new.
- Plumbing: All new head, bronze thru-hulls, holding
tank, and associated valves and hoses. Pressure fresh-water system, fresh
water flushing, multiple dedicated tanks and back-up manual pumps for
fresh-water in galley and flushing.
- Electrical: All new Group 27 batteries for 12 volt
system. All old, obsolete or inefficiently routed wiring removed.
Electronics and electrical sub-systems are all fully operational, with
wiring well secured and rated properly. A large new ProSine inverter is
installed on-board. The shore-power cord and inlet are both new. Engine
has a Balmar high output alternator.
- Instruments: The boat has a Garmin GPS installed at
the Navigation station, a Horizon depth sounder, a Navco autopilot, a DSC VHF radio, a new Suunto
compass and a shortwave RDF were added.
- Safety equipment includes a 246mhz EPIRB as well as
recommended flares and extra extinguishers.
- “Swift-Ranger” comes with a slip at Demen’s Landing at
the St. Petersburg Municipal Marina. Slips are transferable with a sold boat until
10-1-2008. The rent is $377/month, less than half of the cost of either
nearby marinas. The wait list at the St Pete marina for a slip this size is
currently 50 months. A Demen’s Landing slip, the favored area, would not be
available to a new arrival.
- Amenities: New Mermaid air-conditioning unit.
Centrally located, this quiet and efficient unit is equipped with reverse cycle
for heating and a condensate extraction unit. A digital thermostat allows
programming the unit as a de-humidifier. As with other installations
on board, it is well installed, easy to access and is of top quality.
- Engine and Operation: Swift-Ranger is a cutter-head
sloop. She sails very well with only the main and the self-tacking staysail, and
the furling jib is there to give stepped up performance and the ability to
make good way under some very light winds. Her Volvo diesel auxiliary is
somewhat oversize, and drives her very well at low RPM’s. She carries 14
gallons of fuel in her all-aluminum tank. There is a brand new shaft and
coupler, assuring steady operation for a long time to come. Wear parts such
as filters and impellers have been replaced, so even basic maintenance
should not need to be scheduled for some time to come. The bottom was
painted and new zincs were installed Feb '08.
There
are not many boats on the market in this condition, there are new vessels that
are not nearly as ready to put to sea as Swift-Ranger.
